Only a life lived for others is worth living.”-Albert Einstein

I just wanted to share a bit of inspiration and self reflection today. I opened up my “daily book of inspiration,” (which by the way I only use when I need a little bit of inspiration and guidance in my day) and this page spoke to me for two reasons: I’m trying to find my purpose and doing a lot of soul searching. I’m great with other people. At motivating them, uplifting them, listening. When it comes to myself, I’m not so good. I’m still getting to know myself: what I like, what I don’t like. What I’m good at, and accepting what I’m not so good at. I can’t be everything.

A common thread in my life: I tend to go over and beyond for others, to the point where I often overlook things that I feel I should be doing for myself and family. I catch myself saying, “I need to be more selfish.” Or, “I need to prioritize both my needs and family needs better.” While this is all true and it’s definitely a balancing act. I’m coming to realize that nothing is more fulfilling to me than doing something “just because,” or giving in the smallest of ways and not expecting anything in return.

No, I am by no means a “selfless” person, or serious activist, or anything of that nature. It’s more the little things. But rather than fight it, I will embrace it and follow my heart, because that is when I believe I am truly fulfilled and happy.

Here are my words of inspiration-straight from the pages of Now Is The Time 170 Ways to Seize The Moment:

We’re encouraged to think of ourselves, our needs, our desires.

The media, advertisers, and gurus all add to this impetus. But real satisfaction comes elsewhere. Genuine growth and priceless enjoyment come from helping others.

Look where you can help.

Do it with selfless passion.

 Enjoy the feeling.

I wonder if anyone can relate? Or what your thoughts are? If you’re a giver, keep on giving. If you’re busy, take a moment to do something nice for someone-just because. I promise you will feel great!

Xoxo,

Erika

What a wonderful deep thinker you are. As I learn more and more about the fabulous woman my son married, I am inspired to do my best to measure up. Keep it up. You will go far and just when you least expect it you will realize you are following your calling and have been for quite some time. You have a fan!

If you are interested in digging a little deeper with your soul searching, I recommend “Navigating the Interior Life” by Dan Burke.
