Great-Ideas

For some time now, I’ve had an idea…or two…or three. BUT, what good is an idea if you don’t bring it to light? This is a thought I’ve been pondering since I began this whole blog thing. I have ideas here…and there…and EVERYWHERE! Bringing them to light, committing to them, making time for them, trusting yourself and having confidence to shed light on those ideas-well that’s a whole other story.

Sure, not all ideas are light bulb ideas. Some are greater than others. After all, isn’t life all about learning and experiencing? I’m learning that if feels good to have an idea and see it come to light, however big or small the idea may be. Whether it’s successful or not doesn’t really matter. So I will practice what I preach on my blog tag line-“blend of discovery & inspiration”-and continue to share and discover.

That said…back to the idea. Months ago, I had suggested to my son, Christopher, that he start a blog (aha! there’s the idea!). Two reasons I thought the idea would be great: First,  GREAT way for him to practice & develop his writing skills (even though he typically earns an A in this subject, it’s usually a hard earned A); Second, self-discovery. A blog would keep his mind off of, say video games, and require that he discover topics that spark his interest.

Turns out, he actually WANTED to start a blog! WHAT?! I guess I didn’t think he’d be interested. Some time passed, as you know we get busy with life. I noticed Chris had REPEATEDLY expressed interest in starting a blog and kept bugging me to show him how. Little did I know that his wheels were turning! How cute! The idea has turned into perhaps a new hobby for him. Awesome!

Okay, now it’s my job as a parent to foster and develop his interests. So I realized I HAVE to make the time to get him started before he loses interest.

“What do you want your blog to be about?” I asked him.

“Video Games.”

“Really??” I protested. “What about something more general. That way, if you feel like writing about a movie or origami, you can.”

“It’s my blog. I can write about whatever I want.”

Touché.

Hmm, I pondered and reluctantly agreed.

“You’re right, Pa.”

So, video games it is. Actually, I think it’s a great idea! It’s his creative outlet. He can write as he wishes, so long as it’s good natured. Besides, only allowing him to play video games on weekends after 12:00 p.m. doesn’t really deter his interest-if anything, I think he’s even more obsessed!

So there it is, folks. Stay tuned!!!

Erika
